Construction Wars

Thank you to Mrs. Rogers (school counselor) for taking 20, 8th grade students from Manor Middle School who are interested in construction trades to Constructions Wars held at American Builders and Contracts – Keystone Chapter
Construction Wars is a middle school career exploration event where the students hear directly from construction professionals about the value of a career in the industry.
A special surprise…State Representative Brett Miller met with students from Manor Middle School and had pictures taken for his media site. He also spoke to students about the importance of education and jobs in the construction industry. See picture below.
Over the course of three days, 200 area middle school students from Lancaster, York, and Lebanon Counties attended this year’s Construction Wars, an interactive career exploration event to experience hands-on activities with the help of construction professionals. Students participated in 5 sessions:
1. Safety – learned basic CPR2. Sheet Metal – made a tool box3. Plumbing – made an airtight plumbing fixture4. Carpentry – made a step stool5. Tool Demonstration – hands-on with a variety of tools6. Electrical – wiring circuits to turn on a light switch

This field trip is part of Manor Middle School’s focus on supporting students in exploring our Career Education and Work (CEW) Standards. Below are pictures taken of our students at the Construction Wars.
